Message of the Month

Fr. Mateus Rodrigues

To My Parishioners My Valentine

According to legend, there was third century Christian who lived in Rome named Valentine. He was imprisoned during one of the periodic persecution against Christians and was sentenced to death.

Valentine was able to gather violets outside his cell window. He sent them to his loved ones with the message “Remember your Valentine”. After his death he was canonized by the Catholic Church. So now we have St. Valentine’s Day. A day when we send cards to our loved ones asking them to remember us. Loving means sharing. Valentine Day is a day for sharing our care with our loved ones, friends enemies
or foes.

There is probably no topic which has captivated people from every culture throughout the centuries than the topic of love. We put a man on the moon, broke the speed of sound, and mapped the human genome, but love remains a complete mystery. Science has not been able to explain it. Mathematics cannot predict it. Poets still wrestle with adequate words to describe it.

But we are all looking for love. We are all looking for true love. One of our frustrations with love is our complete inability to keep it like sand slipping between our fingers, the harder we grasp, the faster it seems to fall through.

Love is not that easy we all know the truth, love cannot be manufactured, it cannot be bought or traded. It cannot be forced. It cannot be controlled. It cannot be plotted on a map or broken down into a checklist of to do’s.
But is it possible to Find true love?

Love is important in a relationship. It can connect people and keep close regardless of long distance. It can bridge hearts and make them want to live together. Love can beat pain, sadness, revenge , envy, challenges , anger and sufferings. One thing is certain – no one can live a happy life without Love.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love”.
1 Corinthians 13

Love remains forever, Love never dies….
                          I wish you a Very Happy Valentine’s Day !!
